1. How does velvet get along with my dog or cat?
Pets together with velvet furniture do not seem an ideal combination at first glance. However, a velvet or velour fabric is no less than our other fabrics. Or does a material like velvet wear out faster than other fabrics and materials? Most of our velour fabrics have a high Martindale and are made of 100% polyester, which is known for its user-friendly quality and it is also easy to maintain. This is because the velvet fabric on a polyester basis absorbs less moisture and dirt. Unfortunately, we cannot prevent your dog or cat from being less likely to invite you to scratch the velvet sofa. Dog and/or cat hairs can easily be removed from the velvet with an adhesive roller or a damp cloth. Handy!
2. Is velvet a strong fabric?
There is nothing better than having a moment for yourself after a long, busy day. Relaxing on your own 'classy' velvet corner sofa or velvet 3-seater sofa . Even after thousands of times 'sitting' and 'getting up', your sofa will remain in good condition. It is therefore completely untrue that over time, wear marks would appear in that cozy corner where you happen to like to sit. Velvet is incredibly strong. This is due to the dense structure of the fabric. When we talk about furniture fabrics, this is inextricably linked to Martindale. Martindale is the value that is assigned to the wear resistance of a piece of furniture. Just to give you an idea: from a value of 35,000 you can hardly expect any complaints. That is exactly the reason why we only offer velvet fabrics with a Martindale of at least 35,000. A number of velvet fabrics that 4x6 sofa currently has in the collection even have a Martindale of 100,000. Curious about which colours these are? Then click here for our colour overview . Do you still feel the need to regularly clean your velvet sofa or protect it from dirt? With the Protexx stain service, your sofa or armchair will still look good after years!
3. What is shading?
Does a velvet sofa only have advantages, plus points and good properties? Actually, we would immediately say 'YES', but of course there is a group that is less charmed by the 'shading' in the fabric. Velvet is a woven fabric with short open loops. When these loops are cut, small 'hairs' are created. These short 'hairs' create the well-known soft and shiny fabric, which in turn invites you to keep rubbing it with your hand. Sweeping over the fabric causes a certain color change and that is also called 'shading'. This is created because the piles are woven in one direction and when you iron the piles against the nap, they change color. This creates a light/dark effect. So when you get up from the couch after a nice evening of watching TV, your imprint can most likely be found in the cushion. A quick wipe and it will disappear, but if you don't like this playful effect, another fabric such as a cozy teddy or warm melange might be better suited to you.
4. What are the benefits of velvet?
A velvet sofa cover seems like a disadvantage, but is that really the case? Take as little risk as possible regarding discolouration of your furniture and go for velvet. Ultimately, most fabrics and materials discolour if you place the furniture in full sun. Admittedly; natural materials and dark colours simply discolour faster than light colours and fabrics with a synthetic fibre, such as polyester. So if you have a house with a lot of light, a polyester cover for your sofa (including velvet, velour and velvet) is the ideal solution! Haven't heard enough advantages of this soft velvet fabric? Then we have another perfect argument for all proponents: a velvet fabric does not pill. Pilling is also the balls or fluff that form on the edges of your furniture.
5. What is the difference between velvet and velour?
Perhaps the best reason to purchase a velvet seat is the high cuddly feel of the fabric. By choosing a somewhat harder and firmer model and combining it with a velvet fabric, the sofa is still very comfortable to relax on. In addition, a velvet fabric always gives a luxurious look to your home. And be honest; who doesn't want that?! But when do we actually call the fabric velvet and when do we speak of velvet or velours? We can keep it short with velvet; it is the English term for the word velvet. Velours is basically a French name for the word velvet, but there is still a small difference between the two. Velours is the cut variant of velvet and is soft due to the cutting, pulling or roughening of the pile loops. For this reason, it is also slightly less shiny than velvet. So, that question has finally been answered.
